Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker posted a heartwarming tribute to Charlie Kirk after the popular conservative activist was shot to death in a horrific scene at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

Charlie Kirk visited Utah Valley University on Wednesday for his American Comeback Tour. While he was speaking at about 1:10 p.m. EST, the 31-year-old was shot in the neck and quickly rushed to the hospital. At 4:40 p.m. EST, President Donald Trump announced that Kirk had died.

After Trump shared the devastating news, the Chiefs’ star kicker posted a tribute to the husband and proud father of two children:

“Thank you for your strong witness for Christ @charliekirk11. Thank you for pursuing truth and leading your family as a husband and father. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”

The suspected shooter is in custody, though law enforcement hasn’t revealed their name or age. Soon after the shooting, folks on social media incorrectly identified a senior male as the shooter, as a viral video showed him being detained by police.
